If there is one motorcycle in Harley-Davidson's stable that has to personify a dark and brooding look, it has to be the Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Nightster. The Nightster edition of the Sportster 1200 features a dark color scheme all around with the only highlights being the chrome exhausts, rocker covers, and shock arms. Everything else is literally either manufactured in black cast aluminum, or the darkest black and grey paints to provide the look of a motorcycle that absolutely must have something in the bite to back up its bark!
And back it up it does as the Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Nightster motorcycle is powered by a super powerful 1200cc blockhead engine. The blockhead takes its designs from the shovelhead and ironhead and meshes the two engine types together to provide old school styling with the power and rumble we've come to expect from today's Harley Davidson engines.

Nothing at all stands out about the design of the Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Nightster, as everything on the bike is made more subtle by the dark colors. However, everything stands out all at once as one whole body of work that is instantly noticeable as one of the great classic motorcycles ever produced by Harley.
To keep the Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Nightster looking like an old school motorcycle, Harley has completely hidden just about everything that looks modern. Except for the wiring for the front brakes coming off the drag-style handlebars with the black finish, there are no cables to be seen. The speedometer on the Nightster appears at first glance to be something from the '60's, but on second glance, you'll see the electronics in the window, as well as the gear selection below.

There are of course paint schemes for the Sportster Nightster 1200 motorcycle, and from the Nightster motorcycles for sale above, you will in fact see that over the years there have been red, blue, and flame specific versions of the motorcycle. But the vast majority of the paint scheme differences surround the hand-painted gas tank only, while the rest of the motorcycle stays dark. And that's the way I personally like this motorcycle. From the powder-coated cylinders to the black as night handlebars and wheels, the only shine i want to see is from the chrome finish on just a few select parts.
