Available in three distinct models (as of 2010), the Ducati Hypermotard is a motorcycle in a class by itself! Available since the 2007 model year (2008 in the US), the Ducati Hypermotard motorcycle originated as two configurations of motorcycle based around the same engine. The Ducati Hypermotard 1100 motorcycle's performance is based on a 1078 cc L-twin engine which made it capable of 90 horsepower on the base model and 95 horsepower on the higher performance Hypermotard 1100S.

The Ducati Hypermotard 1100 and 1100S (or the EVO models of today) are basically the same motorcycle with a few performance enhancements. The Hypermotard 1100S featured lighter aluminum wheels than the base model. That along with a few carbon fiber pieces added in for slider and fork covers allowed the Hypermotard 1100S to be around 5 pounds lighter than the base model, and therefore increasing the horsepower and torque provided by the motorcycle.

In 2009, Ducati made a smaller Hypermotard available to the market in the Hypermotard 796. This motorcycle is based more on the Ducati Monster than the Hypermotard with it's 800cc engine, shorter seat height, and other smaller details. The horsepower is just a tad less at 81 bhp, but torque was reduced considerably from the 76 lbs/ft to 55 lbs/ft. The Ducati Hypermotard 796 motorcycle was originally designed for the less experienced motorcyclist, giving them an easier to handle Ducati motorcycle.
